TURNING 70,
CHANNELING THE 90s,
& SUPERFICIALITY

I've officially entered the "What the heck is she wearing, and why?" phase.
You know those older women you never get the pleasure of seeing in person, but someone snaps a picture of them unbeknownst to them as they sit at an outdoor café, always outside the United States. We’ll call her Annabelle. She sipping a black coffee and staring blissfully into the distance as their cigarette smoke billows up from a ceramic ashtray. She’s never reading a book because her memories are story enough.
To the outside world, her outfit makes no sense.
And a dark-hued jeweled ring some lover gave them 30 years back during their favorite dalliance in __.
But for her it’s a statement of _.
I feel like that woman, 30 years ahead of schedule. The moment I saw these shoes, I knew they belonged with a tattered pair of baggy jeans .. Not for a night out on the town, but for going to my parents house to sit at the kitchen table and browse furniture for their new home. And that was the real moment, that I’ve arrive at the pint where self expression superceded social anxiety, a place I never thought I’d reach. But I’ve realized even if someone thinks what the heck what does that really do? Nothing so why not.
Eventually we’ll be that 70 year old woman, but why wait?
